Re: Military Service Leave Private Member’s Bill

Dear Minister Duguid:

Congratulations on your appointment.

I enclose herein a copy of my private member’s bill which received first reading during the last session of Parliament.

In August 2008, some 500 reservists from Ontario will be posted overseas. I am suggesting that you consider a similar government amendment to provide some job protection for our military reservists. If you agree to do so, I will not re-introduce my bill in the upcoming session.

Such legislation would be in keeping with the government’s recognition of the Canadian Forces, such as with the recent dedication of a stretch of Highway 401 to Canada’s fallen soldiers.

I would prefer to see such legislation passed into law than receive personal recognition.

Please consider my suggestion. I would appreciate an opportunity to meet with you to discuss the matter further.

Sincerely,

Gerry Martiniuk
